CTC campus declared ‘Plastic-Free Zone’

Mokokchung, September 2 (MExN): Swachh Bharat Mission, Mokokchung district chairman M. Bendangnukshi Longkumer on September 1 declared Clark Theological College campus a ‘Plastic-Free Zone’ and encouraged the Clark community to take part in the movement to keep the campus, spreading over 60 acres, clean and green. Longkumer made the announcement while delivering a talk on, ‘plastic hazards and waste management’ at the CTC plastic-free zone awareness camp-cum-launching programme held at the Multipurpose Hall.

Not only dwelling on the hazards caused by careless use of polythene and plastic materials, the speaker proposed several alternative possibilities. Longkumer said that “cleaning the dirt accumulated due to careless use of polythene and plastic materials on the campus is one thing and taking a pledge not to dirty the campus at all is another thing. We must actually prefer to do the latter than the former.”

CTC Principal Rev. Dr. Marnungsang in his brief speech said that declaring CTC campus as Plastic-free Zone is the brain child of CTC Student’s Council which is whole heartedly supported by the College Faculty and Clark Community. The Principal thanked the Student’s body for their commitment and timely initiative.

More than 300 people signed the pledge card, pledging to make CTC Campus a Plastic-free zone. Academic Dean of the College, Dr. A. Temjen Jamir on behalf of the faculty, staff and community members and C. Zubonthong Ezung President, CTCSU on behalf of the student’s community led the gathering in reading the pledge document which was followed by special prayer by the College Chaplain Rev. Dr. A. Tali Ao.

In his concluding remark, convener of the CTC Plastic-free Zone awareness camp-cum launching programme committee Visakuolie Vakha said that all students admitting to pursue their theological education at CTC from coming academic year will sign the pledge card to actively participate in the mission of making the CTC a Plastic-free Zone Campus.
