Cultural symposium marks culmination of Mimkut mini Hornbill Festival

Governor RN Ravi takes part in an indigenous folk dance during the Mimkut mini Hornbill Festival 2020 celebrated at Molvom village, Dimapur from January 16 – 18.

 

Dimapur, January 19 (MExN): The second edition of Mimkut mini Hornbill Festival 2020, Dimapur District was celebrated at Molvom village under Medziphema sub-division from January 16 – 18. 


It was held under the auspices of Kuki Inpi Nagaland (KIN) and the sponsor of Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland.


Cultural Troupes from 6 Kuki villages under Dimapur and 5 towns performed various cultural dances, Indigenous games and folk songs of the Kukis. Cultural troupes from Dimasa (Kachari) and Sumi community also participated in the event, said a press release from Lallenmang Singson, Secretary, Media Cell Kuki Inpi Nagaland.


On the first day of the celebration, Laljaseh Kuki, chief of Molvom village graced the occasion as Special Guest. The programme was chaired by Sehjang Doungel, (NCS) Secretary to the Government of Nagaland.


Dedicatory prayer was delivered by Rev Lamkhotong Singson, Executive Secretary (KBAN). Welcome song was presented by Molvom youth and students’ union.


Introduction of guests and presentation was led by Henkhohao Singson, Addl Secy GON. Ahsisomleng Band presented a Mimkut song followed by welcome address delivered by Janghao Sitlhou, Vice President, KIN.


Cultural dances and songs displays was led by Seibem Khongsai and Kuki Nute Kiloikhom (KNK) which was followed by speech from the special guest. Later in the day, Indigenous games and Oldies Nite and entertainment by KAON marks the end of the first day.


On the second day of the festival, the function was chaired by L Singsit, IPS (Retd) and the traditional proclamation and blessing of the Kut festivities was pronounced by Lensei Lotzem, Kut Pa (Kut Father).


The day was graced by RN Ravi, Governor of Nagaland & Meghalaya as special guest. Folk Lore in exaltation of the Governor was presented by Ahthibung Cultural Troupe which was followed by introductory speech by Alun Hangsing, Secy to the Govt of Nagaland.


Presidential address and submission of memorandum was delivered by LL Kuki, President KIN. A cultural dance ‘Salu Lam’ was presented by Sirhima Cultural Troupe. 


RN Ravi delivered a speech which was followed by cultural dances from various cultural troupes including the Dimasa (Kachari) and Sumi cultural troupes. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Denis Hangsing, CMO Peren and valedictory prayer was pronounced by Rev Chungpao Khongsai, Exe Secy, KCCNS. 


The culmination programme was marked by cultural symposium on Kuki customary laws and practices, superstitious beliefs with reference to Christian faith, traditional Kuki village administration under Kuki chief and his ‘Semang – Pachong’ (Council of Ministers) with reference to the current day ‘GBship’ and Village Council Administrations.


The KIN acknowledged Ravi for gracing the event, Laljaseh Kuki for funding the programme, the Molvom villagers and everyone concerned for rendering support in all spheres which led to the success of the programme.
