‘Culture and identity at stake today’

State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) additional director Dr Velü-o Shijo said that the culture and identity are at stake today.


Addressing the cultural session, he asked the students to maintain their identity and promote the same for sustainability to flourish.


He told the gathering to uphold the good values of the forefathers stating that the present society is been polarized by other cultures, to which he advised the students to upkeep and maintain their identity.


While lamenting that many youngsters don't know their own dialect and folksongs, he expressed fear that the society and its culture will be lost.


Earlier, Huska Yepthomi, former president of Sumi Hoho also delivered a speech who dwelt on the brotherhood that Sumi and Chakhesang community shares.


He told the gathering to upkeep and strengthen the relationship and maintain unity. Yepthomi also urged the students to dream big, work hard and not to be a liability to the society.


Competition of indigenous folktune (duet) and folk dance in memory of Lt. Niesatsu Khamo and Lt. Zekope Krome was also held where Pfutseromi Students’ Union and Phek Students’ Union won the trophy respectively.
