DAWN conducts workshop on conservation of aquatic resources
Member of District Angler’s Wokha Nagaland (DAWN) and resource persons during the workshop on conservation of Aquatic Resources cum Release of fingerlings (Ranching) on September 1 at the woods Doyang Reservoir.

 

Wokha, September 1 (MExN): A workshop on conservation of Aquatic Resources cum Release of fingerlings (Ranching) funded under (RKVY) was held on September 1 at the woods Doyang Reservoir. The workshop was organised by District Angler’s Wokha Nagaland (DAWN) in collaboration with Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland, a release informed.

 

Senior PS to Deputy Chief Minister, Hachio Patton expressed his willingness to play a pro active role in channeling the grievances of the fishing community and development of Doyang as a tourist destination.

 

Resources person led by Sentinaro, DFO Wokha & her colleagues sensitized the gathering about sustainable fishing and adverse effect of the use of Dynamite and chemicals in Doyang.

 

Echungbemo Erui, EAC Englan on behalf of Wokha District Administration, Village council of all the neighbouring villages and the fishing community numbering 60 attended the workshop.

 

The programme was chaired by K.N Mhonthung Lotha, President (DAWN).

 

Further, Village Council leaders and members of the Fishing Community resolved to strictly impose the ban of dynamites for sustainable fishing and urged the department of Fisheries and the Government of Nagaland to look into the welfare of the community.

 

Meanwhile, DAWN urged upon the government to come out with a legislation involving community participation for the ban of dynamites and chemicals in the river bodies in Nagaland particularly in Doyang for sustainable fishing and further expressed immense gratitude to Kevisa Kense, Director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and DFO Wokha for releasing a truck load of fingerlings in Doyang Reserviour.
