DBHSS Kohima host annual flower show

Kohima, April 28 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya congratulated Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima for conducting the annual flower show for the past many years.  

He stated that it will enhance student’s appreciation of ecological conservation and love for nature. Governor Acharya was addressing the annual flower show of DBHSS, Kohima on April 28, stated a press release issued by PRO to Governor.  

Stating that global warming was a reality and a threat to the world, he called on the students to work and advocate for the betterment of the environment. He asserted that education is one of the most important instruments for men and women and empowerment through education should lead us to work for the welfare and development of the society and to build an environment friendly Nagaland, he added.  

Governor Acharya said that being from Mumbai it was a very rare sight for him to witness so many beautiful flowers and appreciated the flowers displayed at the flower show. He opined that the climatic condition on Nagaland was favourable for production of flower crops in protected environment and stated that the State can make use of the potential for flower and orchid trade.  

The Governor also called on the students to give back to their school once they pass out and not to be self centred. It should be your social responsibility to make sure that your school improves on all fields and you should play a role in strengthening the society, the Governor stated. He also emphasised on the importance of the preserving ones culture and traditions. He stated that the mother tongue is ones identity and should not forget it.  

Special songs were presented by Elizabeth of class 12 Arts and classes 9 & 10 students. Rachel Menehonu spoke on the importance of the environment and the effects of climate change. Principal DBHHS, Rev Fr KC Vincent delivered the welcome address. The Governor also handed away the prizes to the winners of the annual flower show.
