The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel IAS today briefed the Editors of Print Media based in Dimapur, Proprietors of Cable TV and printing presses about the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to be observed during the upcoming election.  

In the meeting, held here at the Conference Hall of DC Dimapur, queries pertaining to MCC such as advertisement, paid news, telecast of political news and printing of pamphlets as per provisions of the law were clarified by the DC & DEO along with Assistant Election Officer (AIO) Dimapur Rolland Merry.  

The attendees were sensitised on the usage of pre-certification of political advertisements. It applies to print and electronic media as well as social media and bulk SMSes.  

The DC & DEO also encouraged the concerned entities to use digital and other payments, instead of cash for expenditure monitoring and auditing purposes of political parties and candidates.  

The printing presses indicate clearly in the print line the names and addresses of printer and publisher of any election pamphlets or posters such other materials printed by them.  

As per the under Section 127 A (2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and the directives of the Commission, the printers are also required to send three copies of the printed materials and the declaration obtained from the publishers within three days of its printing to the undersigned.  

Any violation of the provisions invites penalties including revocation of licence of the printing press under the relevant laws of the state, fine as well as imprisonment.  

A six-member standing committee, headed by DC & DEO Dimapur, has been constituted for Dimapur district for the operation of MCC. The first meeting of the committee was held on January 19.
