Defence Minister visits Indo-Myanmar Border

Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accompanied by Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps today visited forward posts of the Assam Rifles along the Indo-Myanmar Border.  

The Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman who arrived at Dimapur on May 29, continued her visit to Spear Corps Zone on May 30.  

Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence) in a press release stated that at the forward posts, she witnessed firsthand prevalent conditions and ongoing operations of units deployed for border guarding operations in the area. She was briefed by commanders operating on the ground.  

“Having made a comprehensive assessment of the situation, she expressed immense satisfaction on the high standards of professionalism and dedication displayed by units and formations of Spear Corps responsible for operations along the Indo-Myanmar Border,” the release added.  

During the visit to forward areas, she also interacted with local State Government functionaries and representatives of other security agencies. She also met with local community leaders of the area and appreciated their cooperation in maintaining security in the area.  

The Defence Minister departed for Delhi later on the same day.
