Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur today informed the general public that Dengue test can be confirmed only with ELISA Test, conducted free of cost at the Sentinel Surveillance Site Laboratory (SSSL), District Hospital Dimapur.
Do not panic if the rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) for dengue are positive and Private Laboratories are requested not to declare card test positive for dengue and should send the sample to SSSL for confirmation, stated a press release from CMO Dimapur Dr. K Vikato Kinimi.
The CMO further said that fogging is not the only solution for dengue as it kills only one generation of mosquitoes whereas mosquitoes hatch every day.
Regarding complaints from certain quarters regarding no fogging of their colony or ward, the CMO informed that it is carried out during the “early hours or late in the evening in the district which the public may not be aware of.”
The best way to prevent and control dengue is by destroying mosquito breeding areas and preventing mosquitoes from breeding, he added.
In this connection, the Medical Department requested the public to take responsibility and keep their surroundings clean and dry and also wear clothing to cover the whole body during the day. “These simple measures can assist the department in preventing and controlling the further spread of dengue fever in the district,” it added.
