Devastated Maria seeks solace in her children

Maria Shriver's children are rallying around her during a time of crisis for their family. The estranged wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger was pictured going to lunch in Brentwood with two of her children, Katherine, 21, and Christopher, 14. The trio looked strained as they travelled down an escalator together as details of Schwarzenegger's mistress and the son he fathered emerged yesterday.
Katherine stayed close to her mother, 55, after earlier thanking followers on Twitter for their concern during the difficult period. 'This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as I begin to heal and move forward in life. I will always love my family!' she wrote this week. Katherine, who last year penned a self-help book for teens, added: 'Just wanted to thank everyone for the sweet comments and ur concern and love in this changing time! It means a lot! Xo'
Meanwhile, her older brother Patrick has hinted where his loyalties lie by changing his name on Twitter to Patrick Shriver. The 21-year-old 'model, student and entrepreneur' altered his profile following the revelation's about Arnold's love child. His screen name remains @PSchwarzenegger. Patrick wrote on Twitter yesterday: 'Some days you feel like s***, some days you want to quit and just be normal for a bit, yet I love my family till death do us apart. #family'
Katherine discussed her close relationship with both her parents while promoting her book, Rock What You've Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty from Someone Who's Been There and Back, last year. 'I had the best relationship with my Mom. I still do. I talk to her four times a day,' she said. 'I also have an amazing relationship with my Dad. I talk to him about boys, about going out, about what I'm interested in, about business.'
Her younger sister Christina, 19, was seen with their father outside Starbucks earlier this week, and although they looked strained the pair parted with a tight hug. As more details about the 63-year-old former action movie star's affair with the family's former housekeeper and his love child emerged yesterday, it was reported that Maria Shriver had hired California-based family lawyer Laura Wasser. Wasser's previous clients include Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, Kiefer Sutherland, and Britney Spears. 'Maria hasn't decided yet if she wants to end her marriage,' a source close to Shriver told U.S. publication People. Wasser was hired before the news of the affair went public, the source added. Shriver is separated from the former governor.
The mother of Schwarzenegger's lovechild was yesterday named by a U.S. website as Mildred 'Patty' Baena, 50, who became pregnant while working for the former California governor and his family. Details of Schwarzenegger's relationship with Baena have been appearing in news reports overnight, with several outlets alleging that her threats to sell her story to a magazine prompting Schwarzenegger to go public. According to Radaronline, Baena was allegedly furious about being fired in January after 20 years of service and keeping the identity of her 14-year-old son's father secret for such a long time.
TMZ also allege that Baena was obsessed with Maria Shriver and wanted to 'be just like her'. Sources claim that the housekeeper would wear the former NBC presenter's clothes and jewellery and that after Shriver left for work in the morning Baena would 'climb into bed' with Schwarzenegger. According to sources Baena would go to Shriver for advice on her love life and sought advice from her employer during her pregnancy - which coincided with Shriver's, it emerged yesterday.
Baena's son was born on October 2, 1997, according to documents unearthed today. Shriver gave birth to her son, Christopher, on September 27 that same year. Shriver moved out of the family's Brentwood home earlier this year, after Schwarzenegger acknowledged his paternity.
Meanwhile, it has been claimed todaythat Maria Shriver confronted her husband’s mistress over suspicions she was secretly raising his love child. The mother of four, 55, is said to have asked her family’s housekeeper, Mildred Baena, 50, if her son was fathered by Arnold Schwarzenegger. During the dramatic showdown, Baena broke down and confessed, according to America’s Radar Online. The Terminator star only came clean about the sordid affair after Shriver told him she knew the truth about his 13-year secret, insiders say.
TMZ also reported today that Arnold showered Mildred’s family with money during her time in the family’s employ. According to the website, the former Governor of California funded a lavish party for the daughter of Mildred’s sister Maria - who also worked for the family. Arnold and his family attended the Quinceanera - a traditional Latin ‘coming of age’ party where he made a speech telling relatives that he wanted to ‘take care of’ them as Mildred and Maria were so close to him for so many years. According to the website, Mildred’s son by the actor played with Arnold and Maria’s children at the party.
Today chwarzenegger said in a statement: 'After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. 'I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologised to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry. 'I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.'
A spokesman for Shriver who was married to Schwarzenegger for 25 years, said: 'This is a painful and heartbreaking time. 'As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment.'
