Bringing a sigh of relief for patients with chronic renal problems in the region, a dialysis unit was formally commissioned today at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung. 


Medical Superintendent of IMDH, Dr. Medem while speaking at the brief inauguration of the dialysis unit said that the four dialysis machines installed in the hospital was sponsored by the Mumbai based Fairfax India Charitable Foundation (FICF). 


It is learnt that the charitable foundation has sponsored 100 dialysis machines for the North East region out of which four of them were installed in Mokokchung. Two technicians have been appointed to manage the dialysis unit at IMDH under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme of the National Health Mission.


The Medical Superintendent said that the dialysis unit will be under the care of qualified technicians and oriented practitioners and also solicited the support of the public. The dialysis unit at IMDH is only the second such facility in any district hospital in Nagaland after Kohima.


On the cost of availing the service of the dialysis unit, Dr. Medem said that nominal charges for consumables will be exacted from the patients while everything else would remain free of cost.
Associate Pastor of MTBA, Yanglu Pongen pronounced the dedicatory prayer for the dialysis unit. Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung, Dr. Chubala Aier was also present at the inaugural programme.
