Dignity of labour: encounter at Dimapur

Rejulong Lemtur: Went for a hair cut today. Our area lacks skilled barbers. The one we have are all non-Nagas. To my surprise, I saw a Naga barber in the shop today. When asked he said he moved just few weeks back and is now sharing the shop with the other person.

Excited, I asked him which tribe he belongs to and found out that he was a Sumi. I was really happy for him and encouraged too.

A generation where we have lost the dignity of labour and a time where unemployment has crippled our Naga society, I witnessed a Naga brother doing what he is good at.

He indeed did a nice job and it felt nice to have one of our own Naga brother serving me needs instead of a non-Naga. My only wish to the young aspiring entrepreneurs out there. Go ahead with what ideas and interest God has planted in your heart. Do what makes you happy and do it will full passion. What you do defines who you are and it gives you identity.

As for that Sumi barber, from today onwards I will know him as 'Kikato-the humble Naga barber' who made a difference in me   May God bless the young generation.

Know that you are in Dimapur

David Sema: When vehicle numbers start from 07 And they try to overtake you, even if there is no space in the road to overtake When it is difficult to find out from which corner the drain starts and where it ends, For there is no drain besides many roads and in many places the road itself looks like a drain, Know that you are in Dimapur.

Where you can see everyday a four wheeler driver scolding 3 wheeler drivers 3 wheeler drivers scolding two wheeler riders and he in turn scolding pedestrians, Know that you are in Dimapur.

Where it's a commonplace to see foreigners being escorted in the heart of the town by a crowd of Nagas mostly in Circular Road, When apparently his colour of the skin makes him a VIP, Know that you are in Dimapur.

Where you should not get puzzled by looking at signboards in the vehicles Which read President/Secretary of BJP/Congress/NPF, When you know that it's not Amit Shah/Rahul Gandhi/Shürhozelie But a village/ Town/ District/ head of a political party, Know that you are in Dimapur.

Where 3 lists of auto fares comes out every year; One from DC office, another from auto union, and the 3rd - the real one (charged by auto drivers), Where they never fail to increase auto fare when oil price increases But forget to bring down the fair when oil price decreases, Know that you are in Dimapur.

Where every contractor, leader, politician, bureaucrat love to pick up their friends from railway station and airport in their fancy car - While cursing the road on their way home When they comfortably forget - they are actually cursing themselves, Know that you are in Dimapur.

Where every colony/village/student leader talks like Anna Hazare Round the year, For full 5 years And they become Suresh Kalmadi overnight before election comes, Know that you are in Dimapur.
