DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (MExN): Dimapur Police have arrested five persons who are purportedly members of an inter-district vehicle lifters gang.
A press release from the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) & PRO, Dimapur Police informed that the gang of vehicle lifters were arrested from the Chumukedima and Diphupar area with the help of Chumukedima Village Council and Chumukedima Youth Organization.
Dimapur Police identified the five persons as Roland @ Janthungo Murry (27 years); Wochumo Ngullie (23 years); Zachumo Murry; Tokai Jakhalu, a Captain in the GPRN/NSCN; and Peter Aye @ Aja. The arrests were made on May 18 and 24.
One Suzuki Gixxer motorcycle and one Royal Enfield motorcycle were recovered by the police while conducting multiple raids in different hideouts. During investigation, it was ascertained that the gang is involved in inter-district lifting of bikes and has been involved in numerous crimes, whereby vehicles stolen in Wokha were disposed off in Dimapur and vice versa.
Police revealed that one of the habitual offenders, Zachumo Murry was detained at Peducha Police Outpost, under Kohima district, while proceeding to Wokha and a Royal Enfield motorcycle bearing registered number NL07M 0611 (Black colour) was recovered.
Further, on April 24, Tokai Jakhalu and Peter Aye were arrested with one stolen Hero Splendor motorcycle.
Dimapur Police acknowledged the contribution of the Chumukedima Youth Organization in busting this racket, while informing that efforts are on to make more arrests.
