Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Dimapur Police during the last few days has conducted raids at godowns and has made several arrests for extortion and ILP defaulters.
Dimapur Police along with Drugs Controlling Authority, Dimapur conducted raids at three godowns at Khermahal area, Dimapur on August 31. Various duplicate and spurious tobacco substances were being stored for distribution to various shops, PRO, Dimapur Police informed in a press release. In this connection, two persons Raj Kapoor (21) and Diwana Kumar (19) were arrested along with the seized items. Accordingly a case has been registered in West PS under various sections of IPC, COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) and FSSAI Act (Food Safety and Standards Act).
On August 30, Dimapur Police arrested a person from PWD Housing Junction Dimapur for illegal possession of approximately One kg of suspected contraband heroin neatly packed in three packets. The accused was identified as Sapunyi Chakhesang (56). A case has been registered at West Police Station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, on August 27, one person identified as Jepi Awomi was arrested for extorting money from various business establishments at 4th Mile area. Demand slip of NSCN (R) was recovered from his possession. In this connection, a case has been registered at Diphupar PS and further investigation is going on.
Another person, Alula Yimchunger(49) Tatar NSCN(IM) was also arrested for issuing ID (work permit) to business establishment at New Market in the name of NSCN(IM). Three ID cards, one piece of paper containing the list of shop numbers, one mobile handset and cash of Rs 130 were recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case has been registered and investigation is going on.
On August 30, Dimapur Police apprehended two members of NSCN (IM), Ayeto Aye (31) and Vikugha Ayemi (41) for extorting money from business establishment at Gorapati area. Five nos of illegal tax collection slips were recovered from their possession. Accordingly, a case has been registered in East Police Station.
Dimapur Police, on the same day, while manning the Chumukedima check-post, detained five ILP defaulters namely Hussin Ahmed, Jahangir Alam, Jayanal Abdin, Sadikul Islam and Moskedul. In this connection a case has been registered at Chumukedima Police Station under BEFR 1873 and forwarded to the court.
