Dimasa Students’ Union Nagaland honours students

Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): The Dimasa Students’ Union Nagaland (DSUN) organized a felicitation programme for the successful students of HSLC, HSSLC, degree examination of 2018 and also the post graduates of 2017 at DBIDL Hall, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School campus, Dimapur on July 14.  

Organised under the theme ‘The higher the obstacles, the higher we get to rise,’ the event had Vitono Gugu Haralu, students’ councellor at Nagaland Tools and Training Centre and Director of Path Finder and Humi Thaosen, Asst. Professor, Department of Anthropology, Guwahati University, Assam as the resource persons.  

According to a press release from DSUN, Thaosen stated that parents have an equal share of responsibility towards the students. She also emphasized on being competitive and optimistic and not getting carried away by negativity.  

Students should not be confined to few career options, but have mastery over the different subjects and create opportunities, she added, encouraging the students to also go for research studies. Thaosen further shared on how to keep a balance of interest and abilities an individual have and also to develop communications skills not forgetting mother tongue.  

Meanwhile, Vitono Gugu Haralu stated parents can and should act as counsellors for their children. Asserting that one must know their roots, history and culture, she maintained that it is the ignorance of these that one faces identity crises today. “One should accept the truth and honestly embrace the society in order to develop our society,” she added.  

Haralu further said that acknowledgement and appreciation for one another that is lacking in the society is the reason for a huge gap amongst the community members. “The society speaks so much about being discriminated outside the state but is ignorant of the fact that they discriminate their own people back at home in the state,” she pointed out. Also, she said the educated youths of today are famous for their ideas and knowledge in the social media, but in reality they are found to be nowhere to put them into actions, according to the release. She assured to provide opportunity to the Dimasa community in her capacity.  

Speeches on behalf of the students were given by Khasringdi Jigdung and Hamjali Naben. Speeches were also delivered by SK Khemprai, advisor DSUN, Kumar Naben, president Dimasa Public Organisation Nagaland, Devojit Naben, president Dimasa Lairidim Mel Nagaland, and Moromi Hojai, president All Dimasa Women Welfare Society Nagaland.  

Among the invitees present were Chakesang Students’ Union Dimapur, Team Clean Dimapur, CAN Youth, Dimasa Students’ Association Karbi Anglong, and Young People’s Fellowship.
