Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): Under the aegis of Catholic Church (Diocese of Kohima), a rehabilitation centre named ‘Angel Home’ was inaugurated at Signal Angami Village in Dimapur.

Angel Home is a day care centre (to begin with) for those people who are differently abled. It is run by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Mary of Angels (FSMA).

A press note stated here that the Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, has been exploring possibilities of having such a centre in Nagaland as well since Nagaland has many children with different types of differently abled people, who due to their inability in one area do not get an opportunity to develop their abilities in other areas of their life.

The Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Mary of Angels, who collaborate in the mission of the Church in three parishes in Nagaland (Kidima, Khusam and Atoizu) came forward to build and run such a centre in Dimapur.

Rev. Sr. Cyrilla FSMA, Superior General of the Congregation inaugurated the building by cutting the ribbon and lighting the lamp along with Sr. Samina, Provincial Superior and Bishop James Thoppil. The Bishop then said the prayer of blessing and blessed the new house and celebrated the Holy Eucharist, which was followed by a short felicitation program and common meal. The occasion was blessed by the presence of Rev. Sr. Cyrilla, Superior General along with Rev. Sr. Joanna, the Vice General Superior and their councillors, Rev. Sr. Samina, Provincial Superior with her councillors, many FSMA Sisters working in Nagaland and Assam, many Sisters and Fathers from in and around Dimapur and the village representatives and invitees.

The Bishop in his homily said that the Angel Home will manifest to the people in the periphery, the least and lost, and to the society at large a loving, the caring, compassionate and serving face of God, who does not abandon but equip those with differently abled to discover and perfect hidden abilities in them.  The programme was anchored by Rev Sr Tejhonu.

Presently the Angel Home will function only as day care centre for people who are differently abled. Gradually it may extend residential and full time care.
