District administration warns against inordinate price hike

Newmai News Network Shillong | June 9   Taking a serious note of the practice by some shopkeepers who are hiking the price of essential commodities, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills (EKH) district has issued a warning against such practices.   In a release issued here on Saturday, the district magistrate said that in the prevailing law and order situation in Shillong which has resulted to the promulgation of curfew, many shopkeepers and retailers are taking advantage of the situation by escalating prices of the essential commodities.   The magistrate has further assured that after the assessment of the stock position of essential commodities with traders and stockiest that there is no shortage of essential items and therefore there is no reason for retailers and shop keepers to hike prices of essential items.   “Strict action will be taken against retailers, shop keepers found selling essential items at unreasonable and exorbitant price,” he warned.
