DLCC holds meet on National Tobacco Control Programme

Dimapur, MAY 18 (MExN): District Level Co-ordination Committee cum review meeting of National Tobacco Control Programme for the 1st quarter 2019-20 was held under the chairmanship of DC Dimapur cum Chairman DLCC, NTCP, Kevekha Kevin Zehol on May 16 in the conference Hall of DC Dimapur.

In view of the upcoming "World no Tobacco Day" to be observed on May 31, DC Dimapur suggested for putting up more of pictorial representation in strategic areas for educating the people on the ill effects of tobacco. He opined that it could convey the message more effectively.

According to a DIPR report, observing tobacco menace as not a one man issue, Kevin impressed upon the need for joint concerted effort. He expressed happiness towards the various organizations, Naga Students Union Dimapur, schools and churches for coming out together for the cause.

District Nodal Officer for NTCP, Dr Tetseo informed that World No Tobacco Day 2019 would be observed under the theme, "Tobacco and Lung Health."

Expressing concern about the threat of tobacco consumption amongst the youth, Dr Tetseo felt that the church can play an active role towards the campaign.

Psychologist, DTCC, Imkumla Aier while giving a brief account of the theme said that the campaign would increase awareness on the negative impact that tobacco has on people's lung health from cancer to chronic respiratory diseases.

Reverend Moses from Christian Forum Dimapur informed that awareness programme for pastors would be organized by inviting experts, so that they could communicate to their respective congregation on the harmful effects of tobacco.

During the programme four schools were awarded tobacco free school certificates by DC Dimapur.
