DoNER official visits Mokokchung

Inaugurates smart classroom at NIELIT, interacts with students

Mokokchung, August 13 (MExN): Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Naveen Verma (IAS) visited Nagaland Gandhi Ashram and its learning institutes – Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Human Development (MGAHD) and National Institute of E- Learning & Information Technology (NIELIT) – in Chuchuyimlang on August 13.  

At NIELIT, the Secretary inaugurated a smart classroom, which is equipped with better electronic facilities for teaching and learning. He also had interaction with the students and advised them to be sincere in learning and have a clear direction in their career, according to a DIPR report. Verma also visited the new administrative and hostel buildings under construction, and surveyed the new proposed Ashram site, which is a 332 acre land donated by Chuchuyimlang village.  

At MGAHD, a joint initiative of Tata Institute of Social Science & National Gandhi Ashram sponsored by The Hans Foundation, he interacted with students and faculty members. The DoNER Secretary stressed that each must have nodal plan for life not only to survive oneself, but also to help the society. He also shared programmes and schemes of the government for the development of the North East States.  

A public reception in honour of Verma was held in Chuchuyimlang village at Anumai Amphitheatre. Speaking at the programme, he thanked the village for the donation of huge land to the Ashram for its development and shared the importance of the initiatives taken up by DoNER for development of North East region.  

Short speeches were delivered by Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal and Natwar Thakkar, Founder, Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, Chuchuyimlang.  

The DC thanked Verma for his visit to the Ashram saying it shows his concern for the Ashram and also the district in general. He also encouraged the people to follow and take up schemes in which DoNER can contribute, and get benefit out of them.  

Natwar Takkar, who founded the Ashram in 1955, recounted the history and shared fond memories of the Ashram.  

Highlight of the programme included folk song, cultural presentation, and special number.  

Earlier, Naveen Verma also visited Echahaba Tea Factory, which manufactures Merangkong brand tea in Tuli and interacted with tea farmers of co-operative society and members of Merangkong village council. An exhibition-cum-demonstration of bamboo weaves by women artisans was also organized in Tuli.  

Dr. Aotoshi, chairman of Echahaba Tea Growers Co-operative Society, Merangkong facilitated the sessions. The registrar of co-operative societies, officials of Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency also attended the meeting.
