Dimapur, January 3 (MExN): Dr. Nchumbeni Humtsoe from Wokha District recently delivered keynote address in the Research & Development summit held at San Antonio, Texas USA on September 27 and 28, 2018 and Food Safety and Regulatory Conference held at Chicago Illinois on December 4 and 5, 2018 representing India.

According to a press release, Dr. Humtsoe delivered a speech on the importance of omega 3 and 6 fatty acid present in fish and some vegetable oils which is highly beneficial for human health which was very well appreciated by the international professionals present at the conference.

She emphasized that fish  as well as some vegetables and plant based oils are consumed as food in virtually all regions around the world. In many developing countries, fish, flax and borage oil are essential for providing macronutrients and micronutrients to vulnerable populations.

Macronutrients such as proteins and fats are important for growth and development, maintenance and repairing of worn out tissues and for production of enzymes and hormones which is required for our body processes. Micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals are integral component of human diet, preventing malnutrition and are also essential for proper growth of children. Oily fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for healthy brain, eye and nerve development in babies and children. Research has found that eating fish high in omega-3s can slash blood fat levels, which can contribute to a lower heart-disease risk.

Research has also linked fish and omega-3 consumption to treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis. Several studies have found that when taken along with prescription antidepressant medications, the omega-3s in fish are more effective at treating depression that just prescription medication alone. They are also beneficial to your heart health and there is emerging evidence to suggest that eating fish reduces the risk of cancer and arthritis.

For vegetarian, it is best to supplement with some vegetables oils such as flax and borage oils which incorporate a healthy lifestyle and good diet. Flaxseed oil can be used to improve skin conditions, counter constipation and perhaps inhibit cancer growth. Borage oil is mainly prescribed for premenstrual syndrome and menopausal symptoms. Fish as well as some vegetables and plant based oils has been an important source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which also provides macronutrients and micronutrients in human diet from time immemorial.

Dr. Humtsoe opined that attending these conferences has a great opportunity to interact and share knowledge directly with eminent scientists, scholars and researchers from various universities and organisations from across the globe. Such gathering also gives chances to the representatives to trade new thoughts and application encounters up close and personal, to build up business or research relations and to discover worldwide accomplices for future coordinated effort.

Dr. Humtsoe who has published several articles on health and environmental issue concluded her speech that the link between good nutrition and healthy weight, reduced chronic disease risk and overall health is too important to ignore. By taking steps to eat healthy, you will be on your way to getting the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy, active, and strong. As with physical activity, making small changes in your diet can go a long way, and it is easier than you think.
