The ‘Naga People’s Front (NPF) General Convention 2017’ today ‘unanimously’ reposed its faith on presidentship of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and reaffirmed his post till 2020. The general convention was held here today at Khouchiezie Local Ground,Kohima.

Leading the conduct of business by setting ballot box with 19,000 ballot papers, Presiding Officer, KG Kenye, put nomination open for the post of ‘president NPF and other office bearers.’

After nobody came forward for nomination, the convention reaffirmed its support to the presidentship of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu.

To this, the party secretary general and MP Rajya Sabha, Kenye declared the presidentship of Dr. Shürhozelie to complete present term of five years, which will end in January 2020.

The party men and women endorsed the same by raising hands.   With endorsement by similar conventions of the party units across the state, it was informed 21,000 plus active members stand firm behind Dr. Shürhozelie’s presidentship.

The general convention was called in pursuance to the directive of the Election Commission on October 17, 2017 to resolve the ongoing NPF crisis after a parallel party organisation was formed by the NPF legislators who elected Neiphiu Rio as the interim president and later the full-fledged president. The two camps are currently tussling over the party’s election symbol.

The other NPF led by Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio was conspicuously absent from the convention, after spurning an earlier offer from the other camp.

Record of 12th NLA ‘unfortunate’

Speaking after his re-elevation, Dr. Shürhozelie said “the record of the 12th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly is unfortunate and shameful” with regular infighting for leadership.

“We are the owners of the House, staying in the house and doing our daily normal activities,” he said adding that under such situation, if another man tries to break the wall to come in and kick out all who are inside in order to own the house is nothing but madness.

“But since the matter is lying with ECI, we will take all measures to comply with the directive of ECI and hope to see the conclusion very soon,” he said.

‘I am aiming my gun to few corrupted leaders’

The president further claimed that while the Party has done so many good things for the last 15 years in power, due to the wrong handling of the affairs by few leaders, “NPF government has been branded as a corrupted one” in recent times.

“Among the legislators who are on the other side at the moment, I do not mean to say that all are bad people; I am aiming my gun to few corrupted leaders who brought shame to the fair name of the party and its government,” he said adding that the party took this crisis as a blessing in disguise.

“It will be a new team with new discipline and new programme and to start new era to bring about peace and development to the state,” Dr. Shürhozelie further reiterated.
