DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): One truck driver – drugged, assaulted and left for dead – survived to tell the tale. The victim, whose name was withheld by the police, was found injured at the Chathe river, Chümoukedima on November 13. The victim, who is in his 40s, is currently recuperating at a local hospital. It later turned out that he was left for dead after he was reportedly drugged and assaulted; and his truck missing.

In the police investigation that followed, two suspects were arrested, who were identified as Jitu Chaudhary (35 years) from Kamrup, Assam and Randip (37 years) from Karnal, Haryana. They were arrested from an undisclosed location in Dimapur on November 14, stated the Dimapur police PRO in a press release.

As per the release, the duo on November 12 escaped with the victim’s truck after drugging, assaulting and dumping his unconscious body at NH 29 near the bridge leading to New Chumukedima . The truck was tracked down to a house in Toluvi village, Dimapur the next day following which the duo was arrested. The owner of the house from where the truck was recovered was also arrested. He was identified only as Khekuto.

The PRO said that accused Chaudhary was known to the victim. The victim had only recently arrived in Dimapur to drop cargo and was reportedly on an outing with the duo when the incident happened. His food was allegedly spiked by the duo to make him unconscious and steal the truck. The PRO did not rule out the involvement of more people in the crime.
