DUCCF, SN seek clarification from NSCN (IM)

Dimapur, November 23 (MExN): The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) and Survival Nagaland (SN) today sought clarification from NSCN (IM) regarding the arrest of its “two Non Nagas” cadres by Dimapur Police recently.

The Dimapur Police Crime Branch (CID) arrested the two for allegedly “collecting illegal taxes in the name of NSCN (IM) from truckers near Dimapur Railway station area,” on November 11.

The Dimapur Police in a press release identified the two as Kabir Ahmed, ‘Raja Peyu’ in the NSCN (IM) and Nazmul Islam. One .32 pistol, 5 live rounds, 2580 Spasmo Proxyvon Capsules, and duplicate receipt booklet were recovered from their possession.

In a press statement issued by its Media Cell, the DUCCF expressed dismay over the arrest and questioned “the modus operandi of NSCN (IM) utilising the service of suspected illegal immigrants/ outsiders.”

“Even more astonishing is these rogue elements were in possession of gun and drugs,” it said adding, “Such lawlessness parasitic element in public places puts the life of innocents in peril.”

In this connection, the Federation asked NSCN (IM) to come out with a clarification as to how outsiders are let into the rank and file of their organization and urged for immediate termination of the two as well as removal “any such outsiders from the organization.”

“Naga National movement that recruits outside elements will be putting the future Naga generation at stake,” it opined.

DUCCF also lauded the Dimapur Police Crime Branch for arresting the two and extended its unflinching support to the law enforcing agency in checking criminals’ activities in Dimapur and further reminded all colonies Chairmen and GBs to check and report people of suspected origin to the nearest police station.

It also directed land and house owners “not to shelter outsiders without proper verification” and cautioned that they will be held responsible “for sheltering anti social elements.” “Naga youths of all colonies to be vigilant and check anti social elements,” DUCCF urged.

Meanwhile expressing astonishment beyond comprehension over the news report, the Survival Nagaland (SN) stated that the presence of non-Nagas in the Naga National Movement had diluted its essence.

“This act is nothing but molesting our Patriotism and a mockery to nationalism,” the SN asserted in a press statement issued by its Media Cell.

Further expressing ‘highest displeasure’ over repeated notice of such action, it maintained that non-Nagas from NSCN (IM) were also arrested on earlier occasion.

“The very essence of freedom fight is losing its credibility with non-Nagas as cadres,” SN pointed out wanting to know whether “NSCN (IM) was trying to legalise people of doubtful origin as legal citizens of Nagaland.” “What are the criteria of recruitment when someone joins in national movement?”

In this connection, SN argued that the talk of Government of India recognizing “uniqueness of Naga history” is never without the “indigenous issue” and “Naga identity is too precious to be diluted and get lost in the interest of unscrupulous political interest.”

“Hence, Survival Nagaland would be pleased to get timely clarification from the esteemed authority of NSCN (IM),” it added.
