E-Rickshaws have positioned itself as an affordable, eco-friendly mode of mobility with improved technology. A one-of-a-kind initiative to empower and employ Naga youths in Nagaland, Lim Youth Empowerment in collaboration with M/s Kuvu Enterprise is introducing ‘Go Green’, E-Rickshaws in Dimapur. It will be officially launched in Dimapur on September 6.
Talking to The Morung Express, Proprietor Imsumongba Pongen stated that the E-Rickshaws will be distributed to interested unemployed Naga youths at a minimum registration fee of Rs 5000 along with basic formalities. He added that the cost of the E-Rickshaws can be compensated by paying a few hundred as a daily fee at the choice of the person.
The objective behind introducing such service is to enable youths to earn daily wage, make savings and uplift economic status. “As of now, the rickshaws will be limited to 10- 15, to focus more on balancing their income,” he said.
Imsumongba who describes himself as a social worker and businessman said that he himself is starting the service through loan. While pointing that “Nagas are very individualistic” and confines oneself to one’s own tribe and community, he also expressed the same will enable people from different tribes and communities to take advantage of the opportunity. He further asserted that as a social worker he aims to employ 50 youths by the age of 50.
Earlier, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Dimapur considering traffic feasibility, road condition and to promote eco-friendly and non-polluting vehicles, has approved the E-Rickshaws to commute from City tower to DC court junction. The charge of the ride is fixed at Rs 10 per passenger.
The proprietor also expressed that an orientation will be given to the persons availing the rickshaws on the technical know-how in handling the E-Rickshaws and sensitize on safety driving. Also, monthly counseling will be given to the drivers. Along with the E-Rickshaws, charging points will also be introduced.
