Kohima, July 10 (MExN): With the completion of BEST (Basic Entrepreneurial Skills Training) Wave 8, Entrepreneurs Associates (EA) organized an award ceremony on July 10 at the EA Training Centre Darogapathar, Dimapur. Besides the entrepreneurial skill training, the most unique feature of BEST is the EA BEST Award entailing an interest free loan of up to Rs. 1 Lakh.

The trainees are considered on various parameters like business design, innovative idea(s), punctuality, participation, and performance during the training, among others. The award was designed to encourage young aspiring entrepreneurs to kick-start their business, and create role models for ethical business to the younger generation.

EA BEST Award was presented to three individuals in a batch of 24 aspiring entrepreneurs. Vepocho, a postgraduate from NEHU Shillong, started a student store (stationery) with the little savings he had right after his Masters. He joined the BEST training to get more support financially but speaks of a clear vision after the training as it made him realise what really entrepreneurship is all about. Meanwhile, the other awardee, Mulong Imchen, wants to start a grocery store on his own land. He intends to become independent, self- reliant, and looks forward to his venture. The third EA BEST Awardee is Shikaholi Aye. A widow at an early age with two children, Shikaholi’s perseverance is commendable as she plans to start backyard poultry and a shop.

The programme was graced by Moa, Secretary of Ao Baptist Church, Darogapathar, and the trainees exhorted by Tiatemsu Longchar and Khosato. During the award ceremony, Tiatemsu Longchar, Chairman, EATACOL, motivated awardees by saying, “entrepreneur’s life is a busy life with a never-give-up attitude; and discipline should be the outlook of a successful entrepreneur”. Tiatemsu went on to exhort the aspiring entrepreneurs to be an inspiration and added “today, we may be giving out just a small amount but this is just the beginning. And the motive is to see you grow”.

Khosato, block co-ordinator Chumukedima (SVEP), motivated the trainees to “start small with greater perspectives”. He also posed a challenge to the BEST trainees to be accountable and give back to the society when you become a successful entrepreneur.
