Easter Sunday, signifying the resurrection of Jesus Christ, one of the major observance of Christian across the world, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Nagaland.
Besides, special programmes on Sunday devotional services, the day was observed by undertaking several other activities such as midnight vigil as well as sunrise services in many churches.
Enactments of the Christ’s resurrection as well as well Baptism of new members were highlights of the day in many churches. On the sidelines of the day, people greeted each others joyful Easter messages and share various glad tidings of the day. Easter eggs were also shared during the day.
In State capital Kohima, citizens woke up early to celebrate the occasion with Easter Sunrise Service held under the aegis of Kohima Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship at the historic World War-II Cemetery.
According to AIR Kohima, the General Secretary of Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, Rev Dr Vesekhoyi Tetseo delivered the Easter message.
Stating that Jesus is the hope for those who acknowledge their shortcomings and repent, he called upon the people to seek God’s mercy to have eternal salvation, it said.
Chairman of Kohima Village Council, Dr Neiphi Kire extended Easter greetings on the occasion while Kohima Town Baptist Women Union and youths from Nagamese Baptist Churches Kohima Ares presented message in songs, it added.
Earlier, the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio extended Easter greetings to the people of the state.
While the former hoped the day would renew all with assurance of hope, healing, salvation and everlasting joy, the latter stated that “The miracle of Easter brings hope and it is time to rejoice and be thankful for gift of life, love and joy…”
