‘Energy Efficient Kohima’ project launched

Kohima, August 16 (DIPR): The Kohima district administration has launched the ‘Energy Efficient Kohima’ project. Undertaken in collaboration with the Energy Efficient Service Limited (EESL), a public sector body of Government of India implementing the UJALA scheme, the project was launched at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall, Kohima on Independence Day, August 15.  

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor stated that under the project, LED light bulbs will be distributed to some selected villages at subsidized rate of Rs. 70/- per bulb, while selected welfare homes will be issued the bulbs free of cost with all the transportation expenditure borne by the district administration.  

The DC asserted that the use of LED bulbs will result in less power consumption, which will drastically reduce the electricity bill in the district. He also informed that the EESL is in the process to implement the national UJALA scheme in the State with the Government of Nagaland. Lauding the idea of universal use of LED bulbs in the State, he added that the idea will have positive impact on climate change and environment sectors in the State.  

With the launching of “Energy Efficient Kohima” for few selected villages and welfare homes in Kohima town, the DC hoped that it will go a long way in reducing power consumption in the district. He urged the selected beneficiary villages to ensure that individual’s name and LED bulbs rate are properly recorded and maintained while issuing the LED bulbs to the villagers.

The DC further informed that the district administrators concerned will cross check and verify the status of the implementation in their respective areas. He also asked the beneficiaries to give feedbacks on the electricity bill after using the LED bulbs in order to ensure its benefits and to further cover all the villages and towns of the district.  

During the launching programme, an MoU was signed between the Kohima district administration and EESL to bring all the villages and towns of the district under the project as long as the implementation is practicable.  

Additional Commissioner, Reny Wilfred IAS (P) said that the ‘Energy Efficient Kohima’ project was taken up to solve the power consumption issue and transformer overload problems. He believed that with the launching of the project the expenditure of households in Kohima will come down enabling every household to install LED bulbs in the days to come.  

The EESL official from Kolkata shared the success story of LED bulbs implementation in other States. He also highlighted the aims and objective of the National UJALA Scheme under the Union Ministry of Power, Government of India.  

The beneficiaries villages and welfare homes of ‘Energy Efficient Kohima’ are Kezo Basa; Dzülakie; Chedema; Thekrüjuma; KCCI; Old Age Home; Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Homes; Eden Garden, Khuzama, Aids Hospice, Home Gilead and Bright Morning Star Orphanage Home.
