ENSF temporarily suspends proposed June 20 agitation

Dimapur, June 19 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has decided to keep the proposed June 20 agitation in temporary suspension after receiving assurances from the Nagaland State Government on June 19.

According to a press release from the ENSF, the state government said they would take up the relaxation policy with the Government of India (GOI) making a special mention of Eastern Nagaland. Meanwhile, the state government has also stated that the relaxation policy will continue to remain operational till the reply from the GoI is received.

The federation also reminded the concerned department that the existing notification should be implemented in letter and in spirit. However, the federation demanded that the remaining two under construction DIET institutions at Longleng and Kiphire should start functioning by the next academic session. Furthermore, it demanded that B. Ed colleges should be established within the current financial year in all the four districts of Eastern Nagaland. It meanwhile directed all its federating units to temporarily suspend the proposed agitation until further notice from the federation.

It may be noted that on June 18, the ENSF had called for the agitation expressing disappointment at the State Government’s lack of response to its demands regarding relaxation policy for obtaining professional qualification for candidates belonging to the six Eastern Nagaland tribes, even after repeated reminders and an ultimatum.
