‘Exploring new worlds in space’

Nagaland observes World Space Week  

Kohima, September 20 (DIPR): In commemoration of the World Space Week, state levels inter school quiz and painting competition was held at GIS and Remote Sensing Centre on September 20. It was organised jointly by Nagaland GIS and Remote sensing centre, NESAC, Department of Space and Indian Space Research Organisation, under the theme ‘Exploring new worlds in space’.  

Commissioner & Secretary Planning, M. Patton encouraged the students not to have inferiority complex but move forward in achieving greater heights and to never lose hope. He said that this competition is an opportunity to expose oneself to be a part of a bigger space and encouraged all the participants and school authorities for being a part of the event.  

NESAC organized various activities (exhibitions, delivering popular talks, quiz competition and painting competition) at NESAC, Umiam. On September 20, a space exhibitions stall will be opened for students and scientists will be delivering popular talks on space technologies at NESAC, Umiam. The first winner in the quiz competition will be sent to NRSC, Hyderabad to participate at the national level competition on October 10 and to celebrate world Space Week at NRSC, Hyderabad and the top three winners of the painting competition will also be send to NRSC, Hyderabad for evaluation and selection of final winners at national level.  

In the state levels inter school quiz and painting competition, six schools participated where Northfield school bagged the first prize in the quiz competition and 1st runners up was bagged by Baptist High School, 3rd by Little flower School. In the painting competition the 1st position was bagged by Northfield school, 2ndand 3rd by T.M government higher secondary school.  

The programme was chaired by Project Director, Er. Mathung Kithan. Participants from six schools, teachers, and staff of the GIS Department attended the programme.
