Feeling “stressed out and emotionally down,” Tasang Imchen was going through a phase of still grieving the loss of her mother and juggling between work and home front when she realized that she needed a break. Despite the financial constraints, she decided to visit Thailand and that is where the beginning of ExpressionLife evolved.

Tasang stayed in Thailand undergoing training for a month on soft skills including ‘decoupage’, a decorative technique which artistically combines paint, paper napkins or rice paper on any surfaces like wood, glass, canvas, basketry, fiber, tin, cloth, cement or clay. She also managed to get some other training.

Equipped with advance course training on this creative art, Tasang established her own business called “ExpressionLife” on July 2, 2016. ExpressionLife is a one-stop shop for your home decor needs where pretty things meet function. The items are frequently updated to ensure that customers find the latest styles and best models.

Sharing about the name, ExpressionLife, the recognized woman entrepreneur who also runs the “Wedding Pathway” says, “I felt it was appropriate to brand it as ExpressionLife. The fact that our production would define our customers love for colours, scene, images and style, not forgetting that God gives life to the fullest, we try to define life through our works. Believing that the life God gives us is beautiful, calm and peaceful; we try to portray such images in our items.”

Tasang recalls that the few months after they started off, most of the products were on trial basis and risk involved. She said, “Most of the materials we need for work had to be imported online stores. Hunting for raw material was a far cry.”

Despite the struggle and difficult beginning, today ExpressionLife has established itself as a trusted brand and its products are available in many shops in town. In Kohima, the products are now available in the newly opened shop “The Local Store.”

“We have come a long way when it comes to skills, work quality and finishing touches and sales. We have realized that people have come to know about our company, our sales concept and our extended ministry out of this sales and production,” Tasang reviewed with a sense of accomplishment.

“ExpressionLife is not a business but it is expanding into ministry,” she said while adding that “ExpressionLife is planning to do a survey on how Christ has helped the women for their empowerment and also helped the poor. When I look at the staffs, I see testimonies in them too,” stated Tasang, the ministry driven business woman. She also disclosed that ExpressionLife will sponsor the education of children and do more ministries with the slum children in the years to come.

In the future, ExpressionLife hopes to expand its business by collaborating with women who are willing to be their retailers. “We also hope to train more women on soft skills which will further help in their livelihood. With faith, five years from now, we see ourselves not just as a big production company but as a training house for women,” Tasang concluded in a positive note.

ExpressionLife celebrated its first anniversary on July 2, 2017 at its centre located at Kevijau Colony, Dimapur. A small informal function was held where ExpressionLife Magazine was released by Kenei, Principal, Pilgrim School, Dimapur.
