Farmers trained on organic farming

Longleng, October 28 (MExN): A one day farmers’ training on organic farming under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) scheme was held on October 26 in Longleng Town.  

Held at EPRC Hall, the training was organised by the Department of Agriculture, Longleng for the selected organic cluster villages under the district focusing mainly on organic value chain development and formation of farmers’ producer organization.  

The District Agricultural Officer (DAO), Dr. DK Chetri in his keynote address explained the importance of formation of organic farmers’ producer organization which will be registered under the Nagaland Cooperative Society Act, informed a press release.  

D. Robin, SDO (civil) Longleng in his address said that Longleng district has a huge potential, especially in crops like cardamom and ginger, while the chairman APMC Longleng, Angai Phom spoke on the importance of organic farming. Bonkam Phom, AO and project in-charge gave the overview of the project in the district.  

Later during the technical session, Chume Chang, ARCS, Longleng explained in detail the procedure of registering cooperative society and the benefits the farmers can avail by doing so.  

The programme was chaired by SDAO Tamlu, Laklei Phom and the vote of thanks was proposed by K. Sohang, SDAO Longleng. About 65 farmers and field staffs attended the training.
