Farmers training at Tangha village

Dimapur, July 21 (MExN): All together 25 farmers attended a training programme on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) conducted by the Department of Agriculture at Tangha Village, Longleng district on July 16.  

The District Agricultural Officer (DAO) Longleng G Keyevi Ayemi in a press note informed that the district office also gave IPM kits and Rodenticides to the farmers during the training.  

Apart farm a keynote address by the DAO, the resource person, Shoang A.O demonstrated on Pest Management of paddy which included plant spacing, sowing techniques and biological methods for controlling pest and diseases, it said.  

Bongkam A.I. gave training on the topic of Rodent Management by Cultural and Mechanical methods. He also encouraged farmers not to kill beneficial insects and demonstrated different methods of controlling rodents in the field, it added.

Discussion on diseases and pest identification, application of control measures, inspection and monitoring of plants were further demonstrated by Imtinukshi and Ongtok Phom, both AFAs.  

It was the first such training in the village by the Department of Agriculture, the DAO informed.
