Farmers urged to take up scientific cultivation

Longleng, August 31 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Longleng under ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema organised Sankalp Se Siddhi programme at Nyang Village on August 23.

Deputy Commissioner, Longleng Denngan Avennoho Phom, graced the programme as chief guest. Speaking about New India Manthan, the DC said there is a need for cooperation from every individual farmer to take up the scientific cultivation and technologies provided by KVK, without which India cannot attain the double income of farmers by 2022.

Welcome address was delivered by Dr. K. L Meena, Senior Scientist and Head Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy) highlighted about Sankalp Se Siddhi and the seven point strategy to double the farmers income by 2022 followed by screening of a short video.

Progressive farmer Ango Phom from Yongam village who spoke on behalf of the village council said that the farmers are willing and ready to adopt the different technologies which should be implemented timely and season wise. Pongham Phom from Nyang village shared the success of adopting the technology of second crop (black and green gram) in rice fallow (after harvesting of jhum rice). The rice yield was increased by 15-20% when rice crop was sown after black and green gram.

All together 262 farmers from Nyang and Yongam village and KVK officials attended the meeting. Inputs like small tools, implement and neem oil were distributed to farmers and farmers showed keen interest during the programme.
