Former Home Minister Patton joins BJP

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 16 (MExN): Former Nagaland State Home Minister, Y Patton today officially joined the BJP in the presence of the party’s General Secretary Ram Madhav and the BJP’s poll in charge for Tripura Himanta Biswas Sarma in Dimapur. The development occurred after he resigned from membership in the ruling Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF).

It may be noted that Patton had resigned as MLA from the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on January 9, after he was dropped from the cabinet during the recent reshuffle of portfolios in the state.

In a terse resignation letter dated January 9 and addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Patton cited a wish to voluntarily resign. Other than “voluntarily tender my resignation,” no further reasons as to the cause of the resignation were attributed.

The NLA Speaker, Dr Imtiwapang Aier accepted the resignation of the former Home Ministe from membership in the assembly the next day.
