Former LS Speaker's demise mourned

Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on behalf of State BJP leaders and party rank and file has expressed sadness over the demise of former MP and Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, “who was a stalwart of Indian politics and a good parliamentarian,” on August 13.  

In a condolence message, Patton informed that Chatterjee was a 10-time parliamentarian and a Lok Sabha Speaker in the year 2004-2009. He sacrificed his time for the Indian democracy and nation building, the message stated, adding his contribution was remarkable. “He was a man of respect and admired by all parliamentarians, cutting across party lines. His demise is great loss for the nation,” it added. Patton further expressed condolences to his family.  

In another condolence message, former Nagaland MP W Wangyuh Konyak expressed shock at the demise of Somnath Chatterjee. He recollected that Chatterjee was the Speaker of Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009 during his tenure as MP (Lok Sabha) from Nagaland. “He was a man of integrity who could conduct the House smoothly and provided sufficient time to smaller parties like me. In his demise the country has lost a good orator/administrator,” Konyak added. He further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
