Former minister Chenlom Phom’s demise mourned

Kohima, March 13 (MExN): Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio has expressed shock over the demise of former minister M Chenlom Phom in Dimapur on March 13.  

“Late Chenlom Phom was a senior statesman and I had the privilege of knowing him since he was first elected to the 4th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1977 from the UDF. Thereafter, he was re-elected to the 5th, 6th, 8th and 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly,” Rio recollected in a condolence message.  

Acknowledging that the deceased minister served the people with commitment, the CM added, “In his demise, the Nagas have lost a seasoned leader whose absence will be deeply felt by all those who were known to him and those who worked closely with him.”  

Rio along with his wife and family expressed deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved family and to each and everyone affected by the loss.  

In another condolence message, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) expressed sadness at the death of the former minister.  

“Late Chenlom Phom was a dynamic public leader who dedicated his life for the welfare of the Naga people. In his death, the State has lost a committed leader which will be felt greatly by the Naga people in general and the Phom tribe in particular,” stated NLA Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshü in a message.  

On behalf of the NLA, Yhoshü conveyed heartfelt condolences to the wife and children of the deceased and prayed that Almighty God grant them solace to withstand the loss.  

Minister of Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom also uttered sadness and shock at the passing away of M Chenlom Phom. “A prominent Statesman, M Chenlom Phom was dedicated to the service of the Naga people and Phom community in particular. His immense contribution to the Naga society as efficient, sincere and charismatic leader will be remembered and cherished,” Pangnyu stated in a message.  

“In his demise, the Nagas have lost a seasoned leader and his absence will leave a big vacuum which would be hard to fill.”   The minister along with his wife and family members conveyed condolence to the wife, children and grand children of the deceased.
