Former office bearers of BJP Dimapur-III allege discrimination

Former frontal office bearers of 3 BJP Dimapur-III assembly constituency have questioned the neutrality of the district administration for alleged denial of permission to publish news of their resignation in the media.

Briefing media persons at press conference on Wednesday, the former BJP Dimapur-III A/C office bearers including Mandal president Akato Chishi and ST Morcha president, Vekaho Zhimo, informed that earlier on February 9, the BJP mandal and all its units comprising of 181 office bearers, resolved to resign from the party as they had lost faith in the BJP leadership.

“We resigned from the party as earlier the BJP leaders told us to search for a candidate for Dimapur-III A/C, but later on they rejected our recommended candidature on the ground of seat sharing with the NDPP. So with no candidate of our own, we decided to resign from the party,” they said.

But when they approached the district administration and district polling officers to seek approval for publication of the news of their resignation in the print media in the form of advertisement, their request was reportedly turned down by the media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC).

“This rejection of our request is shocking and discriminatory when everyday news of party office bearers and members resigning and joining other political parties from all 60 constituencies are being flashed in the newspapers in the form of paid news (advertisements)”, Akato said.

“Even on February 4 and February 9, the news of office bearers of a political party from 3 Dimapur-III resigning and joining another party, were prominently carried in some local print media in the form of advertisement. Why are they singling us out?” Vekaho added.

The former BJP mandal office bearers said they strongly suspect the hands of some vested interests trying to sabotage the poll prospects of some political parties and candidates in favour of other parties and candidates.
