Four tribe apex bodies question Naga Hoho

Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): Four tribe apex bodies have written to the Acting Speaker of the Naga Hoho questioning the strictures based on which the current President continues to represent the Naga Hoho in official capacity.

In that, the tribe apex bodies—that are constituent elements of the Naga Hoho—are expecting prompt action from the Acting Speaker.

“The Naga Hoho is the only platform where all our Naga Tribal Bodies can come together and reason for a common cause. We want to see that the Naga Hoho become vibrant and active once again to serve our community,” stated the letter dated September 29, 2017. It was signed by representatives of the Angami Public Organisation, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Pochury Hoho and Rengma Hoho.

However, the organizations noted, they were pained to observe the “unprecedented happenings” in the Hoho with the present President of the Naga Hoho continuing his current tenure despite his parent body directing him to quit office several times. It has left the current President with “no moral right” to represent his community, they maintained.

“Continuing as a bonafide mandated leader till date as President hurts the sentiment of other constituents and a direct insult to all Naga Civil Society,” the four apex bodies noted.

Further, the organizations also questioned the current Vice President of the Naga Hoho—his tribe withdrew from the membership of the Naga Hoho and thus, he is “also expected put in his papers.”

In this light, the bodies reminded that “the office of the Naga Hoho is answerable towards the integrity and sincerity in discharging their duties.”
