Fr. Mathew Narimattam laid to rest

Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): The mortal remains of Fr. Mathew Narimattam SDB, who passed away on February 24, were laid to rest on February 26 at the Salesian Cemetery in Salesian College campus, Dimapur. He was 84. According to a press release from Jonas Kerketta, Bosco College of Higher Education, Dimapur, Fr. Mathew died following a fall which caused head injury.  

The Requiem Mass was presided over by Bishop Joseph Aind SDB DD of Dibrugarh Diocese at Salesian College Chapel, while Fr. John Bosco Perianayagam SDB (Vice Provincial of Dimapur Province) concluded the last funeral rites.  

Fr. Mathew Narimattam was born in the Palai diocese of Kerala on April 11, 1933. He officially entered the Salesian (Don Bosco) society on May 24, 1955 and was ordained priest on May 2, 1965.  

Of the 53 years of priestly life, he spent 29 years as a missionary in various places like Dhekiajuli, Doom Dooma, Dibrugarh, Dergaon, Harmutty in Assam, and Itanagar, Doimuk, etc. in Arunachal Pradesh, the press release said. Meanwhile, he spent nearly 24 years in the educational ministry. In 2016, he was transferred to Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur.
