Gandhian centre of NU Lumami organizes national seminar

‘Relevance of Gandhi in the Contemporary World: Perspectives from India and North-East India’

Lumami, November 5 (MExN): Centre for Gandhian Studies and Research (CGSR), Nagaland University organized a two-day national seminar titled ‘Relevance of Gandhi in the Contemporary World: Perspectives from India and North-East India’ from November 2 to 3 at NU, Lumami campus.  

The seminar coincided with the centenary celebrations of famous Champaran Satyagraha movement led by Gandhi during the Indian freedom movement.  

Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pardesi Lal and eminent Gandhian Philospher Prof. Anand Kumar, Fellow at Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla attended the inaugural session.  

Prof. Anand Kumar delivered his keynote lecture, bringing out the relevance of Gandhian philosophy in the present conditions of both in India and North East India, informed a press release received here.  

The Vice-Chancellor meanwhile congratulated the organizing committee of the seminar for coming up with such an important theme on the occasion.  

Others who attended the inaugural session were the Registrar and other officers of the university, faculty from various departments, research scholars, and PG students across the various disciplines.  

During the two days of the seminar, research papers were presented by faculty and research scholars from various parts of the country on different sub-themes related to the title of the seminar. Each technical session was followed by discussion and debate by the participants reflecting different perspectives upon Gandhian philosophy in the present violence and conflict ridden societies of ours, the release said.  

The seminar came to an end with closing ceremony that included short speech by Prof. A K Singh, Department of Political Science, NU and awarding of certificate presentation by him to the paper presenters of the seminar.  

Dr. Temjensosang, Director in charge of CGRS was the seminar convener, while Dr. Y. Srikanth, faculty in TRC, Department of Sociology was the organizing secretary.
