Morung Express News Kubolong | September 8   Government High School, Kubolong today celebrated its Golden Jubilee at the school campus with Chancellor of Global Open University, TN Mannen IAS (retired) as the chief guest. A host of dignitaries from the education department, civil society leaders, representatives from the Asetkong Senden (of Mokokchung, Kohima and Dimapur), well wishers and others attended today’s grand celebration.   The Government High School, Kubolong was established in the year 1967 by the villagers of Asetkong range under Mokokchung district. Kubolong is an EAC administrative circle which is located some twenty kilometers away from Mokokchung town; this administrative block looks after seven villages located at Asetkong range.   While speaking at the programme, the chief guest, TN Mannen IAS (Rtd), Chancellor of Global Open University (who was also a top bureaucrat in the Nagaland State Government), pointed out the age old adage that ‘pen is mightier than sword’ and therefore underscored the importance of educational institutions in this modern world.   In this connection, he drew a parallel with the foregone Ao polity (yimten in Ao language) where the ‘spear and machete (dao)’ was the hallmark of a good governing body. However, today, due to modernization, that same symbolic ‘spear and machete’ has been replaced with the pen and the educational institutions has become the hallmark of a progressive society. Therefore, he encouraged the teachers to make use of the raw materials – the students – identify their talents and ensure that they become successful in life, just like they would want their own child to be successful persons.   While also encouraging the teachers, the retired bureaucrat and University Chancellor said that every student is a gifted in some way and it is the responsibility of the teachers to identify the talents and mold them so that the students would become successful in life.   He also called upon the school management board, the community (especially the village councils) and also the parents to discuss and find means to improve the school so that the past glories of the GHS, Kubolong can be relieved and the school can enter the years beyond the 50th year with hope.   The Chancellor further strongly urged the villages under Asetkong range to have a sense of belongingness and regard Kubolong EAC Hq as the centre of Asetkong. He pointed out that there are different departments functioning under the EAC Hq and it was upto the villagers to see that they function smoothly and properly through active cooperation and through checks and balances.   Meanwhile, nearly three hour Golden Jubilee programme witnessed moments of prayers, a ‘prelude’ about the inception of the school by the Kubolong Students’ Union, and the presentation of jubilee theme song by the students GHS Kubolong.   The jubilee souvenir was released by alumnus Dr N Moa Jamir of IMDH, Mokokchung, while short speeches were delivered by DDEO Mokokchung, Rowaienla, EAC Kubolong Chunaing and president of Asetkong Mungsang, A Nungsang Jamir.   The main speaker of the day was Yanger Aier, Director of John Mission Dimapur while the vote of thanks was delivered by Moakumzuk Lemtur, Convener – Golden Jubilee planning board.
