MON, MARCH 19 (MExN): The first ever Girls Child Olympics for the girl students of schools under Mon was held on March 18 at Local ground, Mon.

“Sport is the medium to bring about gender equality in our society,” stated EAC & Nodal Officer, BBBP Mon, Imliwapang Aier, during the prize distribution programme. A numbers of sports icons in recent years are females at the national level like Saina, Sindhu, Phogat sisters and Mary Kom to name few and there could be a future icon in our midst today, he added. He thanked all the participating schools specially the girl students and school nodal officers for the successful Olympic event and further hoped that such events will be held in future to encourage the girl child.

The Girls Child Olympics was organised by Mon district Administration to motivate and encourage girls in the district under the aegis of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) where all schools of Mon town participated.

EAC & Nodal Officer, BBBP Mon, Imliwapang Aier gave away the certificates and prize to the winners and also led the pledge to the students.

Model High School Mon emerged as winner in Tug of War competition and St. John School stood second. Other events were 100 meter Sprint, 200 meter Sprint, 400 meter Sprint, 4×100 meter Relay Race, Shot Put, High Jump, Long Jump, Sack Race and Balloon Bursting.
