Goods train resumes services, passenger train from Sept 3

Maligaon (Guwahati) August 29 (MExN): The goods train to northeast resumed services today with the safe passage of train between Sudhani and Telta station, an Northeast Frontier Railways official informed today. The movements of passenger trains will also commenced from September 3, he said. Train services were affected as recent flood had damaged portion of track on the UP line along with bridge no 133 between Sudhani and Telta station in Bihar. It affected train services over parts of Bihar and West Bengal under Katihar and Alipurduar Divisions of NFR and disrupting direct train communication of NE Region with rest of the country. It was certified fit by the Engineering department of NFR at 1:25 PM on August 29 and the first goods train which left Sudhani station at 1:50PM arrived to Telta safely at 2:25PM, stated a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma. “The portion has been certified fit upto a maximum speed of Stop dead 10 KMPH,” he said adding that the portion of repaired track will be kept under very close observation under the passage of goods trains. “With the movements of goods trains, the flow of incoming essential commodities to the Northeast area will be restored,” the CPRO maintained. Speed restrictions will continue and all trains in the effected section will ply at restricted speed till such time that permanent repairs are carried out, it said Thousands of labours along with railway officials worked round the clock at all damaged sites to restore the train services during this period, he added. According to NFR, the railways have incurred an estimated commercial loss of Rs. 74.04 crores due to the disruption of services from August 13 to 28. This is apart from the amount which has been refunded to passenger. The losses to other departments like Engineering, Signal & Telecommunication etc. are being assessed. During the intervening period, 821 Mail/Express and 484 passenger trains were cancelled.
