Dimapur, December 15 (MExN): From audiocassette days to audio-CD, Gospel Sound Studio Dimapur has come a long way under the proprietorship of Temjen Pongen and today, December 15, the studio has attained 25 years of its existence. Started-off with a very humble beginning and for 25 years Temjen has put all efforts to make the studio a platform for many upcoming talented people, especially youngsters.
Today in the midst of family, friends and well-wishers, a programme was held at his residence to commemorate the studio’s silver jubilee.

Reminiscence
Temjen flashed back to those years and narrated how and what made him to start the studio. “When I was in Bangalore studying Theology, simultaneously I took piano classes and attended the college choir. This provided me a chance to go to FEBA recording studio to record the choir songs and the message delivered by vice principal which was telecast from the philipine Radio Station. That was the day I had seen a recording studio in my life. I was so surprised and impressed with the entire set up. It touched me so much that tears began to roll down and change my perspective. I said to myself “Why not our Naga do similar ministry or project” and that was my prayer to God,” he said.
With great motivation, Temjen composed songs and recorded four audio albums within three years. The first production of an audio album was in 1985 -with no equipment, he hired sound system and recorded the songs sung by the choir of Discipleship Bible College and message by Tsuknung, principal of the college.
For financial aid, he took loans from NIDC and SBI. Since 1986, he had taken six loans from NIDC and seven loans from SBI.
Temjen also disclosed that his family has run the studio by God’s grace. “How amazing God has led my family mercifully. Praise God.”

All about Temjen
The Executive Director of Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Limited (NIDC) Imsu Jamir lauded Temjen and stated that NIDC regards Temjen Pongen as one the most successful entrepreneurs in Nagaland and it is hoping that he would take up bigger projects in days to come. He also informed that NIDC has awarded Temjen with merit certificate.
Imsu also said that there was no facility those days for recording songs and many talented youth had no place to promote their talent but with the establishment of Gospel Sound Studio, it created a platform for them.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Nagaland Rural Bank I Sashi Pongener also narrated how Temjen approached him when he was a junior field officer at SBI Dimapur.
Sashi said he was eager to help him but he did not know how to convince his manager since it was something new in Nagaland - a young entrepreneur taking up such project. After explaining the project, the manager readily accepted it and granted the loan. “I did not help him. He deserved it,” Sashi opined.
He also said that Temjen’s wife, Awala worked hard with her husband, made the studio what it is today, for which he cited the quote: “Behind every successful man there is a successful woman.”
