Governor, CM mourn Deikim Doungel’s demise

Kohima, June 27 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have expressed grief at the demise of Deikim Doungel, wife of legendary Naga Olympian late Dr T Ao in Kohima on June 27. She was in her late 80s.  

Deikim and Dr. T Ao met in the 1950s at the Kohima Civil Hospital, where the former was a Staff Nurse and the latter a surgeon. They got married in 1956 and were blessed with four children – two daughters and two sons.  

In a condolence message, Governor Acharya said Deikim was a great source of strength and support to late Dr T Ao. “Her loving, caring and understanding persona cannot be forgotten,” the Governor added. He conveyed condolences to all members of the bereaved family.  

Rio in another condolence message stated late Deikim was a quiet yet powerful source behind the success and achievements of her late husband. “Dr. T. Ao was an icon in our society and one of the most well-known personalities of Indian sport. Throughout his married life, late Deikim played the exemplary role of a loving wife and was the foundation of his support system. She stands tall as an example of a strong woman and a person who had an equal role in the successful career of her late husband...,” the CM added.  

Naga society, he stated, will forever remain indebted to her for the positive contributions and the sacrifices she made.  

Rio along with his wife and family expressed sympathies to the bereaved family.  

Deikim's funeral will be held on June 28, 9:00 am at her residence at AG colony, Kohima. Thereafter her body will be taken to Dimapur where she will be laid to rest.
