Govt High School Kigwema declared ‘plastic free’

Kohima, October 17 (MExN): Government High School Kigwema was declared ‘Plastic Free’ on October 15 during a function at Kigwema village with the initiative of Kohima Forest Division. DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS thanked the school for their active participation towards this initiative and highlighted on the importance of the role of the students in fighting plastic pollution especially with regard to single use plastic items.  

The DFO Kohima also reminded that plastic-free school program was part of Green Initiative Program of the Division which mainly focuses on school and its commitments towards green activities such as Swachh Bharat, raising nurseries & plantation, fighting plastic pollution and other conservation activities.  

Headmistress, GHS Kigwema, Kevitsieno thanked the department for the initiative and assured that the school will continue to pursue with the green commitments. Ruokuovikho Chale, Chairman Kigwema Biodiversity & Wild Life Committee appreciated the initiative of the Department for raising environmental awareness in the region. The students and the faculties made plastic free commitments by reading out the pledge which was led by Ranger, Pezaneinuo. To mark the occasion Eco Friendly waste bins, copies of the pledge and a plastic free signage were given to the school by the Department.
