Govt school teachers’ conference ends with pledge to rededicate

Kohima, August 24 (DIPR): The valedictory programme of 2nd All Nagaland Government School Teachers’ Conference was held at NBCC conference hall, Kohima on August 23. Parliamentary Secretary for Economics & Statistics and SCERT, Er. Kropol Vitsu, who was the chief guest, expressed hope that the teachers benefitted from the conference, and that they will go back home and share their experiences with the people.

Lamenting that there is less respect for the teachers unlike the past, the MLA maintained that the reasons for the same are varied, including lack of dedication, insincerity, unethical habits and even lack of training. He urged the teachers to regain the lost respect by re-adjusting and updating themselves to the need of the changing time, and dedicating themselves to their noble profession.

Delivering the welcome address, Principal Director, School Education, Smita Sarangi noted that the event delved into many topics of vital importance for the education system. The Department of School Education is grappling with many complex issues today, yet we are trying our best to establish proper systems, which will go a long way in ensuring quality education to our students, she added. Pointing out that the duty of the teachers is to impart quality education to their students and bring the best in them, she called on the department to organize such programmes to keep the knowledge of the teachers refreshed.

Presenting the summary of report from the discussions, Additional Director, SCERT, T. Sekhose apprised that 450 teachers from all 11 districts, 22 DEOs and SDEOs including the President of Nagaland Private Schools Association and all major stakeholders participated in the conference.

The programme is not a magic bullet to change all the ailments of the education system, but an enabling one for all stakeholders to come together, put together and share experiences, come up with suggestive measures for qualitative education, Sekhose said. He added that the conclusions and points gathered through the interactions will be converged and refined for providing meaningful policy measures for the government to arrive at.

Sekhose later administered the pledge to the teachers, where they reiterated to rededicate themselves to the interest of the students, to gain public trust, uphold their profession and abstain from proxy practices.

Two teacher delegates, Savino and Zingkai, shared their experiences and findings of the two-day conference.

The conference was organized by State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), Department of School Education, and SSA.
