The Greensight Project celebrates one year anniv

‘The Greensight Project,’ an initiative of the Mopungchuket Ait Laishir Telungjem (MALT) towards a greener society and also preserving the biodiversity, today celebrated its one year anniversary with planting of exotic trees at the Mopungchuket area jurisdiction.  

A 5-year scenic enhancement project of MALT, the students’ union of Mopungchuket village under Mokokchung district, The Greensight Project was launched on July 26, 2016, according to a brochure handed out by the MALT. The project will culminate in 2021.  

As a mark of one year achievement, the MALT and The Greensight Project officials along with Mopungchuket Village Council leaders and brand ambassador of the project, Imlibenla Wati (beauty queen and also an active social worker) planted ornamental exotic trees along the roadways.  

The brand ambassador, Imlibenla Wati highly appreciated the MALT for ‘The Greensight Project’ and hoped that it will be a step forward towards the conservation of ecosystem and also towards instilling a sense of responsibility in the people. The beauty queen also planted a ‘Japanese cherry blossom white’ tree and adopted it while christening it as ‘Grace’.  

Mopungchuket Village Council chairman also spoke at the programme and highly appreciated the MALT for its initiative towards the promotion of biodiversity and expressed hope that this project would go a long way.  

It may be noted here that Mopungchuket is a tourist village and one of the most prominent villages under Mokokchung district. The Greensight Project, as per MALT officials, is aimed not only towards beautification of the village but also to convey a message about conserving biodiversity in the whole Naga area and also in the global area.
