GSKSK celebrates birth anniv of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya

Kohima, July 15 (MExN): The Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) celebrated the 203rd birth anniversary of Aadi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on July 13 at the Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall, Chandmari, Kohima with Dr. Arjun Kumar Rai, Founder President, All Nagaland Gorkha Student’s Union and former Principal, Khelhoshe Polytechnic, Atoizu as the chief guest and Santu Thapa, President, Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima as the guest of honour. This year, the day was also celebrated as Eakata Diwas (Unity Day).  

During the programme, one minute silence was also observed in honour of the persons who were killed during the ongoing Gorkhaland agitation in Darjeeling.  

According to a press release from GSKSK general secretary, Tikaram Siwa, the chief guest highlighted the role of Adi kabi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya with special reference to translation of the holy book Ramayana which has great impact in the lives of the Nepali speaking people in the world.  

Meanwhile, the guest of honour in his speech congratulated the president, executives of the Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima and teachers for successfully running Nepali class for school children, while also urging the parents to send more children to the Nepali class so that the children will learn to read and write their mother tongue. He also highlighted on Eakata Diwas (Unity Day) and impressed upon the gathering to be more united in serving the cause of humanity in the State and the country as a whole.  

The Sanstha also felicitated winners of poems and arts competitions and also children who attended Nepali class regularly. The other highlights of the programme were Ramayan path recitation by children, talks on life of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, cultural presentations etc.  

Earlier, the event was chaired by Bharat Baraily, Cultural Secretary, welcome address was delivered by Chandra Kumar Lama, President GSKSK, while the vote of thanks was pronounced by Seema Thapa.
