Guv Acharya visits Handloom workshop

Guwahati, January 7 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, visited a workshop on Handloom and Shitalpatti at Shilpagram in Panjabari, Guwahati on January 6.   Organized by the NEZCC, the workshop, which commenced on January 4, is being held with an aim to promote women artisans and upgrade their skills with new design technique, developing diversified product and to grab the correct market. The workshop will conclude on January 10.   According to a press release, Acharya, who is also Governor of Assam and Chairman of NEZCC, visited the textile weaving section department where he had a brief outlook of the ongoing work and interacted with the designer, master trainers and 15 artisans.

  Sharing from his experience on the textile industry, Governor Acharya imparted his knowhow on the way a textile industry works. This, according to the press release, was really beneficial for the designer, master trainers and the artisans present in the workshop.   Governor Acharya then visited the Handicraft department where he expressed much interest and eagerness in the Shitalpatti work. The designer of Shitalpatti, Moushumi Saikia, briefed the governor on the work, its manufacture, weaving process and how the diversified products have come up, while also briefing him on the market value of the product.   Later, the governor attended a short meeting cum discussion where he interacted with the others.
