High School Daredevils lifts Ist 10th NA- I T20 trophy

A weeklong Ist 10th Northern Angami I T20 championship 2014 organized by Brotherhood Group and sponsored by MLA Khriehu Liezietsu concluded here today at Government Higher Secondary School Ground.

In a grand finale, High School Daredevils defeated North Block Warriors by 8 wickets and lifted the coveted champion trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The runners up was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

Gracing the closing ceremony, Sahu Yiese, additional director (HoD), printing & stationary appreciated the effort of the organizer in bringing together youthful talent and given them a platform to showcase their skills in sports. He maintained that the MLA and advisor New & Renewable Energy and Music Task force Khriehu Liezietsu’s sincere support and keen interest in promoting sports is commendable.

“I believe, under his dynamic leadership and guidance our Naga youth will be given more opportunity to excel in the field of sports.” Stating that Cricket has become a popular game after football, he said it has become so popular in the country that Cricket is considered as an unofficial national game. It is a game which is pursued as a profession which can make cricketer a multi millionaire.

“Naga youths are born talented especially in the field of sports. Unfortunately many remain crude due to lack of innovation, discipline and dedication,” he said. He also stated that Nagaland also possess the resources and talent which can take us at par with cricketers of other states. He said the Nagaland Cricket Stadium at Sovima, Dimapur is well equipped and meets the standard in terms of infrastructure to accommodate national level cricket. He thanked the government in trying to promote cricket in Nagaland.

“Today, upcoming Naga cricketers needs to be encouraged to compete at national level,” he said and felt that government in association with interested private clubs should take initiative in setting up institutes to impart skillful training and expose the young generation in the field of sports.

“We should support, encourage and promote young talents by organizing such tournaments,” he added. The function was compered by Elvis Mepfhüo. The programme was followed by musical nite featuring Divine Connection, Alobo Naga, Cotton Country, Mengu Suokhrie, Diethozo Takhro, Kenie Mepfhüo, Neikuo Khezhie.
